Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/weekThe Role

Perkins is looking for a dedicated and professional Occupational Health Nurse to provide for and deliver health and safety programs and services to Perkins staff. The Occupational Health Nurse will be responsible for promotion and restoration of health, prevention of illness and injury, and protection from work-related and environmental hazards and will work collaboratively with the student’s health services team. The ideal candidate for this position will licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts and have a combined knowledge of health and business to offer a blended approach to health care at work. You will have strong communication skills, planning & organizing expertise, and the ability to provide superior care and counseling for our staff. You will be self-sufficient and resourceful. Due to the nature of this position, a high degree of confidentiality is required.

Located in Watertown, MA, and reporting to the HR Director, this is an opportunity for the right candidate to join an incredibly dedicated and collaborative staff focused on making an impact on the students, clients, and patrons they serve. The initial focus of the role will be heavily focused on providing COVID-19 support and guidance to staff and leadership.

COVID-19 Support

  • Provides counseling to staff on physical and mental health issues and guiding them toward community resources and/or employee assistance programs.
  • Develops and provides guidance and policy recommendations for optimizing post COVID reopening planning and procedures.
  • Serves as the point of contact for the staff related questions and concerns returning to campus post COVID including appropriate testing, self-certification or other mechanisms to ensure the health and safety of our employees and students. Coordinates with the Perkins Health Services Department and Human Resources
  • Manages case contact tracing and reporting, working closely with Human Resources, Health Services, and with local and state Department of Health resources as needed.
  • Serves as point of contact for identifying environmental and administrative controls for infectious control and related workplace safety.

Employee Health Management

  • Provides first-aid and informal counseling to employees with medical questions or concerns and provides referrals to staff when appropriate
  • Develops, implements, and manages medical monitoring programs and safety training programs or events
  • Encourages staff to take responsibility for their own health through health education and disease management programs
  • Oversees the development, updating, and communication of safety policies and procedures
  • Drives a culture that promotes safe work practices, reduces staff injuries and increases student safety
  • Actively guides employees through matters involving workers’ compensation, family medical leave, and accommodation of disabilities and the administration and processing of documentation
  • Responsible for maintaining the security and confidentiality of protected health and personal information and maintaining appropriate records and databases to ensure organizational compliance with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Completes documentation and reports, required by state and federal safety regulatory agencies, related to all injuries, illnesses and exposures.

    Partnerships and Collaboration

  • Support the need for and promote further accessibility across campus
  • Support the audits of workplace hazards, equipment and management protocols
  • Supports the needs associated with implementing emergency and disaster preparedness programs

Candidate Profile

  • Associates Degree in Nursing
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
  • Certification in Occupational Health preferred
  • Prior experience administering worker’s compensation, FMLA, and ADA
  • Ability to motivate employees and managers to implement and follow health and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to anticipate needs and requests without being asked
  • Communicates effectively and informatively
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner
  • Ability to take initiative and work both as an independent self-starter and strong team player
  • Exhibits objectivity and openness to others views; gives and welcomes feedback, and contributes to building a positive team spirit
  • Interacts with all team members with a high level of professionalism
  • Strong attention to detail
