NATURE OF WORK

This is a responsible, professional, and administrative position directing a major division of the department of Health. As part of the Health Department’s overall goal and objectives, has responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating a generalized Public Health Nursing Program for the City of New Haven, which includes School Health Services, Maternal and Child Health, and Communicable Disease Control. Administrative direction and supervision is received from the Director of Health with policy determination originating from the Board of Health.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, with concentration in public health; or a Master’s Degree in administration; or public health related to clinical nursing practice, and 5 to 10 years’ experience in public health nursing, at least two of which were in supervisory or administrative capacity, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practice of the public health nursing and of Federal, State and local laws and ordinances relating to public health; Possession of the knowledge, methods and techniques necessary to direct, guide and assist staff members to fulfill their job responsibilities; Willingness to accept administrative leadership in the total public health program; Thorough knowledge of the functions of health related social agencies.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid, current Registered Nurse license issued by the State of Connecticut; Graduation from an accredited National League of Nursing (N.L.N.) program with a Bachelor of Science degree program in Nursing; Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification; Valid and current Connecticut driver’s license.
