Open to RNs and NPs. Our modern, well-equipped health care facilities include a treatment room, bathrooms, isolation room, wardrooms and the nurse’s private quarters. Colorado is a Nursing Licensure Compact state. If you are not a CO nurse or have your RN (or above) license in a compact state, we can help you pay for your CO nursing license, if hired.

We have good relations with doctors in Woodland Park and in Colorado Springs. This is an excellent opportunity to practice primary nursing in a camp community.

About Us: High Trails is a residential outdoor education center serving schools around the state of Colorado for 3, 4, & 5-day programs. We are located on a gorgeous 6,000 acre property in Pike National Forest in Florissant, CO. Our mission is to provide educational experiences in the outdoors in which children and adults will gain a deep sense of the earth, sense of self, sense of community, and sense of wonder.  Every member of our staff, including our nurse, is integral to making our mission a reality. 

General Responsibilities: Working with teachers, administrators, parents and High Trails directors to meet the medical needs each week. This would include but are not limited to: record keeping, communication, administration of medication, medication protocols, emergency procedures, using High Trails general protocols, and working with other staff members  to provide a quality experience for all members of the Colorado Outdoor Education Center community; and adjusting one’s personal habits to the philosophy, policies and ideals of Colorado Outdoor Education Center.

RN Specific Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Provide first aid care and MESH support for students and staff
  • Oversee the administration of medications to students and staff
  • Coordinate visits to a physician/ER or assessment by our PA when needed
  • Monitor health and cleanliness standards in the health center
  • Organize paperwork and maintain online digital documentation plus filing
  • Communicate and work closely with High Trails directors and various staff as part of the High Trails leadership team
  • Oversee the health and wellness of campers and staff
  • Maintain clear, helpful and professional communications with parents and directors
  • Assist staff with activities, work projects and other tasks as necessary.

Job Requirements: Must be an RN or NP licensed to practice in the state of Colorado.
