Location: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital – Vascular and Interventional Center (VIC)

Department: Vascular and Interventional Center (VIC)

Reports To: VIC Prep/Recovery Supervisor

Job Type: Full-Time

Position Summary:

The Preoperative & Recovery Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in the care of patients undergoing gastroenterology, pulmonary, vascular, neuro-interventional, and interventional radiology procedures at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. This nurse provides comprehensive post-procedure care, ensuring safe, high-quality outcomes through thorough assessments, clinical preparation, vigilant recovery monitoring, and patient education.

Schedule:

Shifts: Rotating shifts within unit hours of 0800 to 2100, Monday through Friday

Call Requirement: One weekend every 7–8 weeks, 0730–1500

Key Responsibilities:

Receive post-procedural patients and perform focused recovery assessments including vital signs, neuro checks, and site monitoring.

Monitor for complications such as bleeding, hemodynamic instability, or adverse reactions to sedation/anesthesia.

Manage pain, nausea, and other immediate recovery needs with physician-directed interventions.

Provide discharge instructions and education tailored to the patient’s procedure and condition.

Document all recovery findings and nursing care in EPIC.

Facilitate safe and timely discharge or admission based on patient status.

Required:

Current RN license in the state of Virginia

BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA-approved)

At least 1 year of experience in PACU, ICU, ED, or procedural recovery nursing

Preferred:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Experience in Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy or procedural prep/recovery

EPIC EMR proficiency
